EXCLUSIVE: Legislative District Proposal Released (SB1175)

Senate Redistricting Committee Chairman Kwame Raoul today released to the public a Census-driven redistricting proposal for review.  For the first time in Illinois history the legislative district boundary proposal is now available, in intricate detail, to any citizen with an Internet connection. 

Today’s release is part of the continued effort to engage the public in the once-in-a-decade redistricting process required by state and federal law.

Raoul also announced that the Senate Redistricting Committee will conduct two additional public hearings.   The meetings, which will be streamed live over the Internet, are scheduled as follows:

Note: The Tuesday, May 24 hearing in Springfield will be a joint hearing of both House and Senate Redistricting Committees.

Senate Redistricting Committee Set to Hear Testimony in Alton on Monday

On Monday, May 2nd, the Senate’s Redistricting Committee will be traveling to Alton to receive input from the public on what congressional and state legislative maps should look like.

The Alton hearing will take place at 12 pm in the Alton Village Hall at 101 E. Third St.

Redistricting Panels Set to Hear Testimony in Carbondale and Elmhurst Thursday

 On April 21st, the Senate’s Redistricting Committee will be traveling to Carbondale and Elmhurst to receive input from the public on what congressional and state legislative maps should look like.

The Carbondale hearing will take place at 10:30 am in the 4th Floor Video Lounge of the Student Union Building on the campus of Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL. This will be the second time that the Senate’s Redistricting Committee has traveled to Carbondale over the last two years. In that span, Governor Quinn has signed a legislative package which made the first changes to the redistricting process since the 1970 Constitutional Convention.

At 3 pm, a redistricting panel will hold a hearing in the City Council Chambers of Elmhurst City Hall ( 209 N. York St.) in Elmhurst, Illinois.

Senate Redistricting Committee Heads to Streamwood and Chicago's Westside on Saturday

On April 30th, the Senate’s Redistricting Committee will be traveling to Streamwood and Chicago's Westside to receive input from the public on what congressional and state legislative maps should look like.

The Streamwood hearing will take place at 10:00 am in the Training Room of the Streamwood Police Department at 401 E. Irving Park Road in Streamwood, IL.

At 12 pm on Saturday, a redistricting panel will also hold a hearing at the Bruce K. Hayden Center for the Performing Arts (1900 W. Van Buren) in Chicago.

Redistricting Panel Headed to Cicero on Tuesday April 19th

Sen. Sandoval and other Latino leaders hopeful local input will be used in the redistricting process

On Tuesday April 19th, the Senate’s Redistricting Committee will be traveling to Cicero to receive input from the public on what congressional and state legislative maps should look like.

The hearing will take place at the New Cicero Community Center which is located at 2250 South 49th Avenue in Cicero, IL at 4pm. However, individuals not on the agenda will also be given the opportunity to testify.

“This hearing demonstrates that Senate Democrats are in full support of communication and participation by all of the constituents of Illinois, particularly in Western Suburban Cook County,” said State Sen. Martin Sandoval who represents Cicero.
